Announcing a local event in Hayward as part of a world-wide movement to promote changes desperately needed in our communities!

On September 27, 2014, we are inviting poets, musicians, and artists of all kinds to present their work centered on the theme of change. On that day, 100 Thousand Poets for Change already has over 600 events registered to take place in over 100 countries!

At our event in Hayward, we welcome writers to read their poems or short stories, musicians to perform, and artists to display their artwork. Artists may have time to speak about their visual art if they wish. We also invite dancers and artists of all kinds to participate, as space and time allow. People of all ages are strongly encouraged to take part in the event; we feel we need to hear the views and opinions of our young people, as they are our future, and sometimes their vision is startlingly clear.

100 Thousand Poets for Change is a global effort to hold events, encourage discussions, and raise awareness about changes needed in our local communities, and very likely also on a national or world-wide level. Since the main goal of this movement is to make those changes a reality—to improve the living conditions and political situations of people in our communities—we hope these events will help break down barriers among us, so that we may stand together to make those changes occur. The focus on what types of changes are needed is determined by the people participating and making their voices heard in each local event. This is an opportunity for you to voice your opinion about what is needed in your community, in your world!

We ask that all work presented focus on the theme of change, which may include any or all of the following: exposing the reality of conditions that need to be changed, helping us to learn more about the people affected by those conditions, dealing with the causes of these conditions, proposing ways that these conditions can be improved, and more. To put it simply, your work might deal with the problems people face, the people suffering from the problems, causes of the problems, and/or solutions to the problems.

Our event will take place at the Pancho Villa Event Center from 2 pm to 6 pm, at 1026 B St, Hayward, CA. It is across the street from The Bistro in Hayward, and up two doors, heading toward Foothill Blvd. People of all ages can attend/present at the Event Center. In addition, we are also hoping to secure use of The Bistro (which is for people 21 and older) in the evening, from 8 pm to 12 am, for more music and readings, but have not managed to do so yet. We will let you know soon if there will be a 'Part Two' to our event or not!

We are mainly seeking original work; however, if a musician wishes to perform a cover of a song about the theme of change by another artist, that might also contribute greatly to the event. Please sign up here to let us know if you wish to participate!

We will not have a precise idea how much time we can allow for each person's presentation until we have an idea of how many participants we will have, and until we know if the Bistro will be available for evening presentations or no. However, we believe that the maximum amount of time allowed for each presentation will be 10 minutes, and may need to be limited to as little as 5 minutes each. Groups of performers may be allowed more time to perform, if desired. Please check back here for updates!

We thank you sincerely for being a part of this effort. With your help, we hope to be able to bring together the many diverse and unique people that make up our communities and bring about some of the changes that are needed.
