茶房であり、著名な絵本作家である田島征三氏による、浅間山を背景にした、竹で出来た音の出る、（どうらくオルガン）や、実際に、同氏自ら、絵を描いた土で出来た塗り壁の小屋の宿泊施設や、恒例となった（ロバの音楽座）の公演や、芸術家・音楽家・デザイナーなどが、地元の住民や海外からの旅行者と共に、本当に日本地方文化と異文化体験・交流を、直に触れあえる場所と機会を提供する目的で、御牧ヶ原大地の里山に、25年前にオープンしました。
