Technology

San Francisco State University supports its students with technological equipment that may not be accessible for everyone. Any student with an active ID card and is actively enrolled in classes in the current semester is eligible to checkout equipment. This includes items like laptops, cameras/ camcorders, accessories for the equipment, and more. If a student is enrolled in a specific major, they are granted privileges to rent even more complex equipment relevant to their class. When an item is rented, it is not charged for like a normal rental at any store but instead free. Furthermore, the item can be checked out for numerous days at a time, like a library. Specific items have shorter or longer rental periods. For example, laptops are given access for a whole month once a semester; In contrast, complex camera equipment is fewer in numbers, which can only be rented for three days.

The map below should help provide reference to the location of access.

Devices/Equipment

The equipment is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Higher in demand equipment may need to be reserved ahead of time to ensure rental. Consult the tech attendant for time period of rental, as each has its own time window. Some equipments have limits on how much they can be rented by an individual per semester. In addition, late fees can be enacted upon failure to return equipment on time. The checkout area is accessible on the second floor through elevators or stairs.

Computers

San Francisco State serves computers to 400+ students everyday. The computers on campus are PC notebooks designed for borrowing for an allocated time. Most of the computer sector is located in the Research Common in the library. Desktops, both Mac and PC's, are also available in the Commons, if the student does not mind working on-site. If the student needs to checkout a computer for off-site use, the front desk in the Commons can check them out, usually staffed by two or more employees. However, there is a limited quantity and early arrival is recommended during heavy academic time, such as finals week.

Location: Research Commons in J. Paul Library

Hours: (8 AM-10 PM: Monday- Friday)

Student Services on Campus

Additional services are provided by the university in the same area.
