Worm farm & composting workshopThere has been a recent increase in the number of community gardens in Sydney, with local Councils, particularly in high density suburbs realising the social, community & environmental benefits of allocating crown land to communal gardens.

The following is a list of community gardens, please add community gardens in your area to the list;

List of Gardens:

  • Waverley Community Garden

Bondi Junction, Clementson Park, cnr Ebley Street and Newland St, Bondi Junction. Established in 1999, the Garden was upgraded by Waverley Council in 2007.    The Waverley Community Garden has 26 ‘kitchen garden’ plots available to be licensed to individuals, 2 plots for community organisation and 2 plots for a children's learning area.  In 2011 the fee for licensing a plot is $55.00 a year for individuals.  Organic gardening methods must be used by those licensing the plots. To apply for a plot go to the Waverley Council website or call  02 9369 8000. 

  • Randwick Community Organic Garden

The Randwick Community Organic Garden is located at the Paine Reserve (north end), corner of Rainbow and Botany Street, Randwick.  Community & individual (private) plots are available for lease (subject to availability).  The garden site is owned by Randwick City Council but is run by the community.  To apply for a plot go to the Randwick Community Organic Garden website. 

There are currently 70 members of the Randwick Community Gardens and non-members are also welcome to join in the community gardening workshops or join in one of the community working bees (3rd Sunday of every month).  As the name suggests it is an organic garden.
