The Pima Air and Space Museum

The idea of the Air and Space Museum began in 1966, when at the 25th anniversary celebration of the US Air Force, commanders realized that the history of aviation was disappearing with the demolition of old aircraft. The initiative was very popular, and the foundation began to raise funds to purchase land for public museums. The museum's first major purchase of an aircraft from outside Tucson was in 1969 when it purchased a joint B-24 liberator from the Republic of India.
