No, I’m not talking about the bald cypress, which isn’t native to Michigan (but which is a really cool tree). I’m talking about tamarack, also known as Eastern Larch (Larix laricina), which loses its needles in the fall when deciduous trees lose their leaves. I should probably be writing about this in the fall, because their color adds a spectacular golden luster to their chosen habitat, but since I’m on a roll with evergreens, I didn’t want to leave this beauty out.
