What do you know about Kankakee?

The city of Kankakee was founded in 1853. It is located about 45 minutes south of Chicago's Loop on Interstate 57. The Kankakee River runs through the city, and was a farming community in its early years Later the railroad lead to a large growth, and is still used today. The original train depot is still used for boarding, as well as an event space, with a beautiful restored interior.  The business district is mainly located downtown. The city offers a large public library, farmers market, public transportation with Metro Bus, and the Amtrak stops at the train depot for passengers. The community is home to the Daily Journal newspaper, as well as the Kankakee County Museum. The Rotary Club of Kankakee was chartered in June 1915, and is still active today. The current Mayor is Chastity  Wells-Armstrong, She was able to win over Nina Epstien, who held the position for 3 terms.
