The Nature Center is an organization that provides the community with various types of information including environmental stewardship, trail information, camp events, and classes. The Center was established to prevent a highway from being constructed in the Shaker Heights area, which would have cut through the South Parkland area. The region surrounding the Nature Center has been established as a National Environmental Study Area by the National Park Service.  The organization sponsors "Stewardship Saturdays" where volunteers maintain the parkland area, Hike and Run events, and various family hikes where people can bird watch and enjoy sitting by the campfire.
