2005-11-05 09:57:41   Cool! Another PostScript enthusiast! The line in the third image is almost definitely because you didn't set the initial point before drawing. The way to avoid it is to compute the first point outside of your loop. Without seeing your code, I can't say for sure though. Where did you get exposed to PS? —SteveDavison

2005-11-12 10:57:32   your photo is kind of funny. you look really shady, like you're about to steal something from that woman and then run like hell. those kind of graduation photos are always crazy, there's no time to get a decent shot, silly photographers. —MichelleAccurso

2005-11-16 16:29:34   Hah! I remember back in the day in Troop 111, Nick used to eat E-Z-CHEESE by the can. Yeah, straight out of the can. Good times. Nick, haven't seen you in forever where did you go? —JoshPelz

2005-12-28 02:53:45   www is deprecated! —PhilipNeustrom

Very interesting, although I am not sure what authority they have at this point to "deprecate". Are they going to do an RFC? Did you know that http://ftp.debian.org/ works (besides ftp obviously)? It is their site for files and www.debian.org is the website. I imagine if you are a debian webmaster, you can ftp there too. So www does not always correspond to http. www.debian.org is the debian website, part of the world wide web, by whatever method that you get there. In many situations it is true that http://www.whatever.whatever/ is redundant, but if http and ftp are on different hosts and the domain is redirected just based on port number this is less transparent. I think part of the problem is that the "World Wide Web" is so indefinite for exactly the reason that some Websites also accept requests without the www. In my view http servers not called www should generally be used for other applications or in some way not be intended as "Web sites", capital W. The phrase "World Wide Web" does have a separate meaning from the Internet, after all, and I don't think that should be wasted. In my opinion, the traditional way has the most flexibility. Thanks for showing this to me though. When did we discuss this before? I can't remember. -NickSchmalenberger

2006-01-15 17:14:57   I think most anarchists would say an "anarchy" should have something that performs some government functions, though it would likely be very different (in which way depending on the kind of anarchist) from what governments look like today. Look up the Wikipedia entry on Anarchism. —AlexanderWoo

2006-02-21 02:54:22   Because the sign outside said "Hamburger Stand," I bought two types of hamburgers at Weinershnitzel. They were both dry, flavorless, and made me wish I'd stopped at In N Out instead! —CraigBrozinsky

2006-03-04 18:16:51   I think you're reading too much into it. She *did* get him cupcakes for his birthday, she obviously knows him. And I don't see anything wrong with saying he knows whats up in her sentence- its meant as slang, not literally... I hear girls say that all the time about guys who do stuff like that. —ES

2006-04-05 09:01:56   Apparently Wienerschnitzel and the Original Hamburger Stand are owned by the same company, but they are different businesses. I plead you, for the love of all things holy, don't eat the hamburgers there. —CraigBrozinsky

Okay. Isn't it possible that the weinerschnitzel company could own a good hamburger restaurant? This may not actually be the case, but simply being weinerschitzel doesn't prevent them from having good hamburgers. Anyway, I will take your word for it. Thanks! -NickSchmalenberger

2006-04-09 21:37:06   No, Nick. I didn't mean you saying that water problems are worldwide is ridiculous, I was saying that objecting to a charity that you are not involved with, nor obligated to contribute is ridiculous. Especially when you propose an impractical, long-term investiment as a better way of dealing with an immediate problem. —RyanPrendiville

2006-04-09 23:40:53   I don't want to have a long drawn out debate. I think you're wrong, just leave it at that. —RyanPrendiville

2006-04-16 15:02:22   "If people want to assemble in order to productively plan how to overthrow or improve the government by whatever means are effective, that is fine. But I don't think simply assembling, and particularly shouting slogans and waving banners, is at all useful. It is not much better than a riot and often becomes one." Say what? Ever hear of Martin Luther King? Vietnam? —JeffSpeckles

2006-04-20 18:51:20   Could you merge your multiple replies into a single block on the Halema Buzayan page? It needs some cleaning up and it's probably best if you merge your replies —PhilipNeustrom

2006-04-26 15:44:17   I don't think that the Del Sorcho page ought to be a sub-page of Del Taco. I mean, logically, yes, it is a sub-set of that as an idea, but sub-pages I believe should be viewed as a utility and not as a categorization system. This is because they function only in one direction and produce unnecessarily long names. They can help to resolve name conflicts and let general-sounding pages exist in specific locations (e.g. "Graphics", "Technical Discussion" on "Wiki Community"). I think that if that page is cruddy on its own then it ought to just be removed or integrated/redirected to del taco. Sorry for the long winded response, but I wanted to give some reasoning for my revert. —PhilipNeustrom

2006-04-27 00:29:42   The caption was funny! —PhilipNeustrom

2006-05-14 04:47:33   "There are many euphemisms for homosexuality because of its historically controversial status relating to the traditional expectation by societies for members to have sexual practices most likely to produce children and grow the economy or political body. However, the Earth is close to filled up, so reorientation of sexual practices away from producing children maybe worth considering. Propagation of terminal illnesses may also be helpful." Your second two sentences are strange. Your use "reorientation of sexual practices," while likely intended to emphasize contraception practices, has the effect of implying that gays have reoriented their personal sexual practices for whatever reason. Many, if not most, gays would disagree with you strongly. The third sentence, "propagation of terminal illness may be helpful" doesn't maky any sense to me. If you're advocating population control then yes, there is definitely a debate here, but how is this relevant to the gay community page? AIDS is a disease which started in the gay community, but the notions of disease and population control seem tangential at best to the topic of the page. Your phrasing is also harsh and strange. —PhilipNeustrom

2006-05-15 17:21:37   That web page is in German. —PhilipNeustrom

2006-05-15 23:51:53   Whether in German or in English, that web page about 127.0.0.1 is anything but concise. —GrahamFreeman

2006-05-16 00:10:55   On IP Addresses, how about if there is the wikipedia link and then it says "for an example of using this feature, read this web page: [english link], [german link]"? —NickSchmalenberger

2006-05-16 00:17:45   This page, which is linked from the wikipedia article in question, gets the same message across in many thousands fewer characters than the one you linked to. —GrahamFreeman

2006-06-27 10:39:59   Hey Nick. On the Gay Community page, the comment about the boy scouts doesn't make sense to me. What individuals are you talking about? Could you clarify? Also, why did you delete the bit about secular universities tending to be more accepting? Admitedly, that doesn't apply to universities with religious affiliations, but does tend to apply to secular universities. —KaiTing

I had a problem with that wording as well. Kai, many universities with religious affiliation are affirming. For instance, Duke University or Stetson University: the latter is a very religious university with a very decent gender studies program for such a small university. I have personal experience with both student bodies over a decade ago, and they are quite affirming. At the same time, there are plenty of secular universities that have hostile student groups or rampant incidents of hate. Don't equate religious with bigoted. That makes you... well... a bigot.jw

For the Boy Scouts, it was my personal experience that some people didn't think homosexuals should be allowed and some did, but that it really was not a big deal. Although I am not a homosexual, I did have an experience relating to atheism that may tell you something about the attitude of some people in Davis. I once told one of my leaders (a woman by the way, and it seems to me that allowing women leaders presents much the same theoretical problem as homosexual men) that I was an atheist. She told me that as long as I didn't make a big deal out of it, it would be fine. This was fine with me, so it was never an issue again. As for universities, what Jabberwokky said. -NickSchmalenberger

"2006-10-23" "I'd rather be bukkake'd." —A quote from Nick, during a conversation on whether it would be better to be stoned to death or be publicly bukkake'd. —AdrienneMcCarthy

My thinking on this was that if you are bukkaked first, you can always be stoned to death later, but if you choose stoning, then no bukkake. I want to have as many experiences as is practical before the death experience, but bukkake is a fairly low priority for me. —NickSchmalenberger

2006-11-03 22:57:25   Thanks for your help, Nick, I am a work in progress here. I appreciate your guidance. I would rather be bukkake'd unless you mean "marijauna" stoned. I could eventually wash off the shame, but stoning is forever. Unless it's "marijauna" stoned. That wears off. —AdamFlowers

2006-11-15 19:34:54   I like your game! And in response to a note I saw on Unitrans and Student Access passes, some career staff is looking into asking RT for some money or some kind of deal to allow you guys on... who knows, though. I know of a student who has a very, very old UC Davis ID that is mostly not his but he can get on just fine after a couple of failures with a Student Access pass —ChristyMarsden

2006-11-18 15:20:10   Out of curiosity, why are you removing all useful qualitative information from the NorCal entry? It used to read like a Fodor's Travel Guide or newspaper travel section (i.e., something to use to plan a trip), now it's looking more like the CIA Factbook, dry and duplicated elsewhere. —JabberWokky

2006-11-18 19:23:22   (Note that Carlos left you a note on my entry) —JabberWokky

2006-11-18 19:28:04   I prefer interesting, enjoyable verbage. I'm also not sure how "quaint" is mean... I rather like quaint towns, in fact, that's why I like Grass Valley. Maybe you have a different connotation of "quaint". I like Americana and slow paced towns and find no insult in honestly describing what they are. In the end, I'd rather have an interesting read rather than a short factual summary. You also deleted text saying that there's not much to see in a town, despite that being useful information for a traveller. It's not an insult, sometimes there just isn't much to visit other than a quick bladder break on the road. —JabberWokky

2006-11-20 15:05:29   I don't think it's hype, that's truth. People come from all over to go from Napa, and Napa Valley is famous around the world for it's wines. I don't consider that "extreme", and even if you do, I think I agree with the last few comments, specifically JW's. Sorry. —ES

2006-11-28 19:56:21   dude, honestly, i'm tired of your BS. out with it. are you just a sexist trying to pick on things that bother you? are you just trying to get a rise because you are bored at home? you come on my page and make a bunch of uneducated remarks about a simple image i have uploaded. i'm sorry it freaks you out that historically, women have been oppressed. honestly, if you see me in person sometime, i will sit down and gladly have a conversation with you. as for now, you aren't listening to my points, and if i'm saying shit on my own private 'name space,' what does it matter to you, anonymous kid? —SnowBeige

2006-12-20 22:25:43   When I learned to type, I was told (at first) to put two spaces after the period. This is left over from typewriter days and isn't advisable anymore unless you're using monospaced font. —ArlenAbraham

2007-02-02 06:03:19   It's a more formal definition and examples. Commentary versus News: Bill O'Reilly versus the Associated Press. You linked to a very funny O'Reilly, but a link to a more general description is likely better. Somebody could probably find a better writeup than that particular Wikipedia article, I agree. Even by their own admission it's pretty poor. Still, just like everything else, it's an improvable starting point. If it's something you really care about, why not help clean up the Wikipedia entry? —JabberWokky

2007-02-05 18:01:52   i think the food pages were deleted because they weren't davis specific, and they didn't lend themselves to being summarized or integrated. could you possible integrate some of that text into the "slow food" page? —CraigBrozinsky

2007-02-12 07:00:42   Your continued efforts to make California a vapid waste are interesting... and confusing... —CarlosOverstreet

2007-02-12 07:40:00   It could be better than Yellowstone. Where's any value judgement other than distance and fame? Yellowstone is one of the best known parks with geothermal displays, here's one that's much closer. Cool. There's no "second best" in that entry, unless I misread it. Less famous, but fame is hardly a measure of if something is "better" or not. For that matter, closer tends to make something better. You're seeing dire insults where none exist. —JabberWokky

2007-02-16 23:58:47   True, but opening a grocery store takes significantly more capitol than opening a coffee shop. Also, these comments would be better suited on the page in question rather than our personal pages. Blah. —ArlenAbraham

2007-03-14 08:10:38   Seriously good idea for an entry. It's one of those things that people need to research now and then. UCD Med Center likely has a booklet on local resources. —JabberWokky

2007-03-15 19:05:52   Because the official site claimed there were no groups in the area. I was actually curious, so I did check. I just punched it in again, and there are four listed. Either I did the wrong zip the first time (unlikely as it popped up in the typeahead), or I missed Davis, as it's down in the list, and I think I thought it was by geographic distance and now I see it's alphabetic... okay, so I did check, but my medication soaked brain couldn't parse a simple list when I did, apparantly. Many apologies, no slight intended. —JabberWokky

If I recall correctly, I just picked whichever was easier to restore, since there was a catfight about it this morning and both got deleted in the scuffle. I was fixing the zillion stupid edit wars and was concentrating on preserving content. I may have just restored it to the previous version to be less antagonistic about the restoration of the entry. 2007-11-07 11:22:28   Nick, I am somewhat new to editing Daviswiki. I work at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis and wanted to make sure that the information about the church on Daviswiki is accurate and accessible. I looked at the other spiritual organization pages and took their lead as far as what information to include and how. This morning I looked again and saw that you have rearranged my section headings and a few other things. Is there some reason that I can't have the sections in the order I had them? I read through the instructions, and tried to make the information as easy to read as possible, but now that you've rearranged them, I am left wondering why. Please e-mail me to let me know if there are wiki conventions I should be aware of, otherwise I plan to make future changes as I see fit. 2007-11-16 00:27:55   In answer to the question you posed on the Safeway page: yes, I think the State Market and Harvest Market pages can be merged. 2008-02-22 12:57:39   I think the Christopher Cabaldon page could be copied and pasted into the westsac wiki. But, it's pertinent on the DavisWiki because he's running for the 8th assembly district, which also covers Davis. I'll put the wikipedia link in there too. —brandonhkey

2008-03-20 11:53:56   Schmalen, do you have 2 mobo jumpers by any chance? —StevenDaubert

Yeah, I do, I try to strip them off any trash I see. Call me and come over sometime. —NickSchmalenberger

2008-03-23 00:44:08   It was nice meeting you today! :) —ScarlettYing

2008-03-24 01:51:15   I would concur wholeheartedly —StevenDaubert

2008-03-24 21:21:49   Cool link, thanks. I buy that sugar does not cause hyperactivity, but that's not what was needs evidence. The critical questions is whether, during a malnourished all nighter, sugar will quickly bring your alertnesss to a normal level at a rate quicker than lipids, complex carbs, wookies meat, etc. —CraigBrozinsky

2008-05-12 21:17:53   Wow, that was really harsh. She was very happy with her new look. —Davidlm

2008-07-15 10:17:38   As a mater of fact, I would. —MasonMurray

2008-08-22 11:24:48   I'm glad someone appreciates good taste! My classmates sure don't. To answer your question, it wouldn't be funny if I said it. They are all on my computer. I can wreak all kinds of havoc with one press of a button. You can find them online. —CurlyGirl26

- Sadly in high school I used to say them —StevenDaubert

2008-08-22 12:12:43   there is a rather extensive soundboard. There is also a site that has the vast vast majority available for download, I had damn near all of them before I lost the HDD —StevenDaubert

2008-10-02 07:32:30   what up Schmalen! Shouts —StevenDaubert

2008-10-15 08:28:03   Hey, not sure where you got the info about the bubonic plague but, if you have the reference handy, you might check for hantavirus as well. These days bubonic plague is pretty trivial to treat, but hantaviruses aren't so treatable. The rodents I'm familiar with (Mus, Peromyscus, etc) carry it and it's a pretty common warning and topic among people who raise rodents. It usually comes up in discussing rescues of wild rodents. I have no idea if squirrels carry it, but if so, it (and the plague and rabies notes) should probably go up into the entry. —JabberWokky

2008-10-15 12:14:54   Hello, Fellow Wikian and Davisphile! I enjoyed your company at dinner last night. Good of you to come! —CurlyGirl26

2008-10-15 12:20:23   Oh and I"m with you on the UCD politics. Seems like every time someone farts in the ASUCD, it gets recorded somewhere here on the wiki. —CurlyGirl26

2008-10-26 13:10:19   could be down, but I have plans of liasing with other wikians later tonight... —StevenDaubert

2008-10-27 09:52:16   yeah it was hella packed when I strolled... I would be down, except the eatery is effing dead brah... —StevenDaubert

2008-11-08 17:31:15   King of pedantry! (And a good place for a link, to boot). —JabberWokky

2008-12-18 05:58:22   Thanks Nick. I'm not a fan of Flash either, especially that movie he has, but what you are looking for is exactly what he does. Most of the people in this industry talk about "experiences" because the system itself changes from customer to customer, but he could probably be more specific. He spoke to me about a couple of his past customers and it would probably be useful to discuss those on the Web site, with pictures. —condemned2bfree

2008-12-19 05:21:00   Hey, i would post that on the Facebook even page. I'm actually not in town and have nothing to do with the event. —Chibi

2008-12-19 05:22:13   Woot for Fables! it's an awesome comic! —Chibi

2008-12-19 22:23:49   You must have me mistaken...I have not edited that page. —EliseKane

2008-12-27 23:27:00   hi Nick, Jabberwocky showed me what edit you were referring to; I thanked him for clarifying. I did indeed make that edit. Boy, that was a reallllly long time ago but I remembering making it because that bit of info was completely irrelevant to the entry. Hope this clears that up for ya! —EliseKane

2008-12-27 23:40:38   My reasoning is that someone's personal anecdote about being dropped off at a store to wander around without any money to spend has nothing to do with Fry's Electronics. Entries should remain uncluttered because their purpose is to provide information to the wiki public in a straightforward, mainly factually-based manner. —EliseKane

2008-12-28 14:35:53   TO: Mr. Nick Schmalenberger CC: JabberWocky

Mr. Schmalenberger, I would appreciate it if you didn't get belligerent in your messages to me. It is offensive and unproductive toward our main cause, which is improving the wiki. I love Davis, as do you, so it would be in our best interests to treat each other with respect. Note that it is in conflict with Wiki Ethics to use "confrontational speech."

You mention that I removed the portion of the article "just because you don't like it". This is a false assertion, per my explanation for you as to why I edited that entry (see comment above). If that is your interpretation of my reasoning, I apologize that you misunderstand me so vastly.

You state that "the idea of pages having a purpose of informing the wiki public is BS." It is my opinion that you have missed the [overarching objective] of the wiki. I am also afraid that you have neglected to read the Wiki Introduction, which states that the wiki is "a place for sharing, listening, learning, growing and exploring," and that it is "a place to record Davis culture, places, [and] spots." I fully agree with your AND the wiki Intro's sentiment that "what the wiki contains and means is up to you. As a general rule you should contribute content you think will be helpful or insightful to others, but even this rule can be broken at times."

In removing Marie Huynh's anecdote, my objective was only toward improving the entry as a whole, and not toward removing a humanizing aspect of the entry. I still maintain that Huynh's anecdote is less of a humanizing aspect of the entry and more of an irrelevancy for the fact that it is NOT informative, as would be Jabberwocky's example of "there are particularly nice smelling flowers on the slope outside the store." (see Jabberwocky comment for reference.) Do what you will with the Fry's page, however, because you clearly have a very deep attachment to Huynh's comment whereby you felt it necessary to contact me.

As for your citation of my Orgasmatron page, I am flattered that you expended such effort to find a page I created so as to back up your argument, because this gives me the opportunity to share with a fellow Davis-lover a great piece of town trivia: It just so happens that the Orgasmatron's sign has been up since the 1970s and was the location of all California Aggie photographic production pre-digital technology (note that this is a "place" or "spot" in Davis, as the Wiki Intro states). There are, of course, secrets about the room that I am not at liberty to divulge because they remain classified except for those in the know at The California Aggie. In essence, this page exists because as you say, "I can relate to [the] text from my own experiences." —EliseKane

2009-01-23 10:45:31   Hey, Nick. I think the restaurant you're talking about used to be A&W Rootbeer. They had carhops and a bench or two. In the late summer the bench would be swarming with yellow jackets. When I was a kid we used to get gallon jugs of rootbeer that they had for take home. Mmmmm. There was a space next to the barber shop that was a record store that had used records and it was a natural food store for a while that was operated by Bob Black who became mayor and later a county supervisor or something like that. The natural food store moved over by the hardwars store on G street in the building with the mural that faces the hardware store parking lot. —JohnBaker

2009-01-23 10:58:07   Guseppie's Restaurant was on the same side of the street farther east down Olive Drive from Slatter's Court. The Calori's house was behind it. It had an outdoor dining area, I think, and there's probably something else in the same building now. It had a bar inside, too. I imagine that big cork oak tree is still there, too. Can't tell you for sure because I've been living in Chicago for about 30 years and haven't been back to Davis but a few times. —JohnBaker

2009-02-08 01:27:40   8D —BreeButler

2009-02-08 17:53:58   pokity! (was making some nice changes on my user page that i think you'll a ppreciate, when i noticed that you were prolly online) —Chibi

2009-02-09 02:06:14   o.0 the pic scared me at first as it was loading _ You look pretty, oh so pretty! i'm sad i missed the thriftstore run, but i had Mage LARP. but i'm DEFINATELY going to Japantown! —Chibi

2009-02-26 14:15:24   no prob; I noticed it was missing from the list! —EliseKane

2009-03-09 06:59:40   I was up around 4 as well, what were you doing up? —StevenDaubert

2009-03-12 12:22:03   Typical paperclips probably don't have enough mass to toss far enough. I'd go with a binder clip. Other than the smallest ones, you should be able to hit a NAT enabled router. —JabberWokky

2009-03-24 18:25:42   Well, I saw the addition about you on the sex page and had to add to it. I mean, I don't think that you want people chasing you down to cut your hair off, right? —Jteeples

2009-03-26 22:29:20   I could try, and if I did I would be successful. However, I do not wish to. I'm a guy, and I think my Fiancee wouldn't like it very much. But thanks for the offer. —Jteeples

2009-04-28 09:50:08   Hey nick, just thought I'd drop by and give you a wave. *wave* —MasonMurray

2009-05-01 05:29:54   Okay. —JabberWokky

2009-05-21 02:17:00   Yelp is a fake site? Their wiki entry talks of some criticisms, but I wasn't aware that there was a widespread problem with them. That's not to say that I've ever used them or care about them, I just didn't know there was such rancor about them. —JoePomidor

2009-05-25 13:24:40   Kudos on the nice incorporation of Google street-view. Kudos! KUDOS!!!! —TheAmazingLarry

2009-06-12 11:44:04   um... because I am a davis student and resident and huge contributer to the Davis community, as well as the sole organizer of this event, and additionally because it's being cosponsored by KDVS, i think it's perfectly acceptable that it is on the daviswiki. last time i checked this was a free community of helpful information. Most of the people vendoring at this are from Davis and it would be useful for them to know.

So, yes, I will add it to the sacto wiki, but I'm keeping it on here as well —SharmiBasu

2009-06-16 18:53:02   and after linking it will people be able to find us when they look up salons and barbershops? sorry really not used to this wiki thing. haha —HollywoodtheBarber

2009-06-16 22:47:32   Thanks for your comment. I agree with conventions, including this one in general, but felt this was a minor and appropriate exception. There are, to my knowledge, no cute penguins in my computer. —DonShor

2009-06-17 11:07:54   Thanks so much for your help. like i said its very much appreciated brotha! have an awesome day! —HollywoodtheBarber

2009-07-13 02:07:47   Thanks for the clarification. —BlueDot

2009-07-30 07:50:55   I actually use Ubuntu - my first foray into Linux, I wanted to start 'simple,' idea being to get some grasp of it before possibly venturing off into other varieties. Figured I had used every version of Mac OS and just about every Windows incarnation (including making ME stable!), so I should at least give Linux a shot. Of course, I haven't had much time to play with it, but I get a few minutes here and there to teach myself more. —BrettHall

2009-08-22 12:37:40   Thanks:) You should come check them out. —Ravenwolfmoondragon

2009-08-25 13:09:14   That would be super-awesome. But I'm not getting SC2 at least not until someone releases a good hack for LAN gaming. —MasonMurray

2009-08-27 09:54:38   No kidding. Probably the worst thing that they could have done too, that was one of the main features of SC. Supposedly it's go "Cut down on piracy," or some such. An interesting note, since you didn't know that... if you want to play on Battle.Net, your CD key is tied to your account, so if you get Perma Banned, your CD key gets banned, not just the account you were using. —MasonMurray

2009-09-11 15:35:05   were you talking about the no lan support for starcraft 2? it's pretty awesome isn't it —StevenDaubert

2009-09-11 22:29:11   Thanks for catching the spam on Irvine Wiki. Work has made it difficult to monitor and update the wiki these last several months. —Mateo

2009-09-14 18:54:25   Best to avoid these places. They all sell spoiled milk (often with real strawberries!). —JabberWokky

2009-09-15 11:16:19   Do you know for a fact that Green Lady Landscapes is a landscaping service? I realize it is linked from the landscaping page, but last night I was trying to get those pages in order. I moved one landscape architect from the landscaping page to the new landscape architects page. If you don't know for sure which it is, we should probably restore my question to the page. —CovertProfessor

2009-09-15 18:52:27   Great, thanks! —CovertProfessor

2009-09-17 23:34:47   Good catch. I did a search on the page, but I guess I stopped too soon and didn't see the other text on La E. —robinlaughlin

2009-09-20 13:54:38   Thanks, Nick! I agree...sometimes, I am so in awe with the fact that I can even eat food that I actually forget to eat it. And I just stare at the food in all of its glory. And then when the hunger becomes unbearable, I eat it. I'm glad that you and I are on the same page, haha! :) —kthrnngo

2009-09-22 23:13:30   Nick, WTF? You should ask before reverting -assume a person has a good reason to make a change. Take a look at 'Campus Lecture Halls' and tell me what you see there! -SteveDavison —SteveDavison

2009-09-23 02:47:22   If you need a citable reference, I have a published book for travelers, "Daytripping Sacramento", that calls it Chem 194. :) —JabberWokky

2009-09-23 04:00:32   go to sleep Schmal —StevenDaubert

2009-09-23 04:37:39   I wasn't being very serious (in fact, if I were, I'd have headed downstairs to go check the title and get the author). Your point is valid, but I'm more irked by the lack of redirects that connect common and formal names. That way the namespace would carry both forms without data duplication. That's what they are for, anyway... pointers to the same data by multiple labels. There is precedent, however, for names being the most commonly known official form rather than the proper formal form. I remember it coming up at least twice (and a third time as a side issue during the whole Solidarity thing). Looking for official use via a quick Google search (and skipping over dozens of Registrar uses, as they shorten names anyway), I can find it in Dateline, UC Davis Magazine and a couple hundred other ucdavis.edu pages. Certainly not the formal name, but used by authoritative sources. With the odd "if it doesn't have a link to it, kill the redirect!" tendency around here, there's little incentive to add a formal/informal pointer to the actual content, and readers would likely be more confused than enlightened by the full, formal title. (Yes, I'm stating a viewpoint of the situation more than making an argument for or against anything; there's no real "correct" solution here, IMO... you are right, and they are also right by practical use. My preferred method that would make room for both isn't currently supported by the editing community). —JabberWokky

2009-10-12 06:32:13   Because it was referring to the Woodland Starbucks. There is a link higher above that is referring to Davis Starbucks already. I thought it pretty clear. —RyanMikulovsky

2009-10-18 01:06:45   Thank you!! —VeronicaBruno

2009-10-19 17:04:58   Thanks for the offer! I'm actually really busy right now, since I've just started working full time for the first time in my life, and also I managed to hyperextend my knee, so I haven't been doing a lot of hiking, but I will try to get in touch when I have the time and ability to be a bit more mobile. —JoePomidor

2009-11-03 08:55:00   You might want to help KristinApril with Luci's Salon. —JabberWokky

2009-11-11 15:21:24   Hi it would be nice for users of the wiki to know your affiliation with Bay-Tel and Huynh, especially if you plan on editing wiki sites involving other local Davis providers or any other provider for that matter. —astrinet Hi, this is Evan Gray. 2009-11-12 18:27:43   No, alas, the mentality of pretty much all end point users is that they are consumers, not equal peers on the net who should have parity with all other peers, and there's so there's pretty much zero demand. Heck, many bandwidth providers even punish you and write into their ToS that you can't do whatever you want with your bandwidth. I've been NATed under v4 for quite a long time, and was recently flogged by Comcast for "using too much internet". —JabberWokky

2009-11-12 23:53:47   Note that there is an Internet Access disambiguation page. Internet Providers, to my mind, is almost as ambiguous as Internet Access. Internet Service Provider, though, has a recognized meaning. —CovertProfessor

2009-11-13 10:08:34   I think it's much better now, thank you. We've still got a bit more linking to do (from each ISP back to the Internet Service Provider page), but it's already better than it was. —CovertProfessor

2009-11-16 09:56:41   Why did you delete the free piles page? There seemed to be some sympathy for your idea. —CovertProfessor
