The Sustainable Living Research Bill (SB2274) was a proposed bill in 2014 at the state level to allow Hawai`i and Kaua'i counties to issue sustainable living research permits that would allow applicants to opt out of specifically enumerated building and safety codes which are inapplicable to sustainable living practices. The bill died in reconciliation in 2014 after nearly unanimously passing both houses, but advocates with the Hawai`i Sustainable Community Alliance are trying again with revamped legislation for 2017.
