SARANAC LAKE — Dennis L. Ryan, 77, of Sugarbush, died Friday, April 23, 1993, at the Adirondack Medical Center at Saranac Lake.

Born April 11, 1916, in Alderbrook, he was the son of James and Elizabeth (Butler) Ryan. He attended school in Alderbrook and graduated from AuSable Forks High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army with the 33rd General Hospital in Africa and Italy.

He had been a resident of Sugarbush for the past 45 years. He was a carpenter and worked for the Gendron Lumber Company for many years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the carpenters' union Local No. 1042.

In 1948 he married Shirley DeLano in Saranac Lake.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Melinda Hadley of Sugarbush; two brothers, Joseph Ryan of Rome and Francis Ryan of Saranac Lake; two sisters, Catherine Craft of Rome and Elizabeth Manley of Florida; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Phillip of Peru, John of Massena and Edward of Sugarbush; and one sister, Mary Tyler of California.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake with a Bible vigil service at 7:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale with the Rev. Patrick Mundy officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to North Country Life Flight or the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
