Francis A. Callaghan was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Vincent and Alice (Cassavaugh) Callaghan.

SARANAC LAKE - Francis A. Callaghan, 63, of Dugal Road, Tupper Lake, died yesterday at the Glens Falls Hospital.

He was born July 23, 1920, in Utica, the son of Vincent and Alice (Cassavaugh) Callaghan.

Mr. Callaghan had been a resident of Tupper Lake for the last 37 years and was employed as a mechanic at the Park Street Garage in Tupper Lake from 1950 to 1972. Before living in Tupper Lake he had been a resident of Saranac Lake.

Survivors include his wife, the former Isabelle Sweet of Tupper Lake; five daughters, Shirley Clark of Ocala, Fla., Mrs. Kathleen Burman of Saranac Lake, Maureen Callaghan of Malone, and Colleen King and Elizabeth Callaghan, both of Tupper Lake; and four sons, Randy Stringham of Hobe Sound, Fla., Timothy and Peter Callaghan of Tupper Lake and Patrick Callaghan of Fort Pierce, Fla.

Five brothers, Richard Callaghan of Orlando, Fla., Robert Callaghan of Los Angeles, Calif., Michael and Bernard Callaghan, both of Saranac Lake, and Lawrence Callaghan of Poughkeepsie; three sisters, Mrs. Betty Santor of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Mary Griffin of Syracuse and Mrs. Helen Martin of Saranac Lake; nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m., and again tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Fortune Funeral Home here. A Bible vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m., at St. John's Church in Lake Clear, with the Rev. Francis Flynn, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
