On February 14, 2018, a gunman opened fire at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the school, shot and killed 17 students with a semi-automatic rifle. This spurred not only the community but also the nation to join the "Never Again MSD," an advocacy group founded by the survivors. A year after the shooting, two students committed suicide due to the trauma they dealt with.
