Walter L. Hansen (May 30, 1927 - June 30, 2008) was an Ishpeming attorney and a World War II veteran.

U.S. Veteran Ishpeming - Walter Lundahl Hansen, age 81 of 900A Garfield Ave Marquette and longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Monday June 30, 2008 at the Eastwood Nursing Center. Mr Hansen was the son of Walter and Mildred (Lundahl) Hansen of Ishpeming, both of whom are deceased. He was born in Ishpeming on May 30, 1927, graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1945, and without attending his graduation ceremonies he left to join the U.S. Navy as a volunteer during World War II. After the war he received an undergraduate degree in literature from the University of Michigan in 1950 followed by a Juris Doctor degree in law from that same institution in 1953.

Mr. Hansen returned to Ishpeming in 1953 to enter the law firm of, then, Davidson and Clancey. He practiced with that firm until his retirement in January of 2000. During that time the firm’s name changed to Davidson, Clancey and Hansen; Clancey and Hansen; Clancey, Hansen and Vielmetti; and finally to Clancey, Hansen, Chilman, Graybill and Greenlee. The firm no longer exists.

In his early years of practicing law, Walter spent part time as the law clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Justice John D. Voelker of Ishpeming, and later was, again part-time, Marquette County Assistant Prosecutor under the Prosecutor, Edward Quinnell. In 1960 Walter chaired the Ishpeming Charter revision committee, and he served as Marquette County Republican Committee chairman for four years. Walter was a member of the Champion Lions Club and the Wawonowin Country Club, the Ishpeming Elks Club, and spent a great deal of time boating on the Great Lakes. He also enjoyed deer hunting and bird hunting, and time spent living on Lake Michigamme, and loved a good joke among friends.

Walter is survived by his wife of almost thirty years, Joan (Gallagher) Hansen of Marquette; three children, Walter Karl Hansen of St. Paul, Minnesota, Helen (Michael) Grossman of Negaunee, and Amy McCorkell of Palmer, Alaska; two stepsons, Karl Lehmann and Kurt (Julie) Lehmann both of Ishpeming; seven grandchildren, Sarah Hansen, presently of Beijing, China; Erik Hansen of St. Paul, Minnesota; Henry Hansen of St. Paul; Benjamin Grossman of Lansing; Rachael Grossman of Pasadena, California; Riley McCorkell of Anchorage, Alaska; and Emily McCorkell of Anchorage, Alaska; three step-grandsons, Andrew (Mollie) Lehmann of Lansing; David Lehmann of Ann Arbor; and Jacob Lehmann of Ishpeming.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming with the Rev. James Robb to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Venice Supper Club in Ishpeming.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:00noon until the time of service at 1:00p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home.
