Lake Merritt United Methodist Church was formed in 1984 by the merger of First Methodist Church and St. Stephens United Methodist Church.
The building was completed in 1991, and replaced the Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist that had previously occupied the location. The building was designed by church member Terry Wade. The sanctuary includes 3 panels of stunning Tiffany mosaics, titled Te Deum Laudamus, that were moved from a church in Los Angeles.
