There are a lot of murals on the side of the historic Marcus Bookstore at 3900 MLK in Longfellow.

The mural painted in the inlet/garage area is called " The Answer Mural" and was painted by Oakland artist Jimi Evins in 2008. It reads "The answer is in us. The world changes when we do. The words "dignity, honor, respect, justice, compassion and seek self knowledge" are written across a picture of Africa. There is a picture of a bridge and a few African American people. The names Rae Howard and Casper Banjo are also on a small tableau of Africa.

There is also a very large series of murals by the Community Rejuvenation Project called "Abundant Knowledge." These murals were painted in collaboration with the owner of Marcus Books, Blanche Richardson, in 2013, along with community members, as a graffiti abatement project. The murals feature prominent features from black history in between books and people reading. The books all have titles of important books by black authors- Hurston, Garvey, McMillan, Morrison, etc.
