The Oakland Oaks were a short-lived basketball team in the American Basketball Association (ABA). (Not to be confused with the Oakland Oaks baseball team, or other oaks in Oakland.) The ABA Oakland Oaks were around two seasons, 1967-68 and 1968-69, and were owned by singer and actor Pat Boone. The Oaks won the ABA championship in 1969.
The Oaks managed to sign SF Warriors player Rick Barry by offering him a six-figure salary and 15% ownership in the team.
The team was sold in 1969 and moved to Washington, D.C., where it was renamed the Washington Caps.
