Harmony Bakery was founded in 1989 by Phil and Nickie Nasr, two self taught bakers. The bakery won "best bread" in a Palo Alto Weekly newspaper reader's poll for six years. They were known for their cranberry muffin, carrot bread, spinach cheese bread, amore di polenta cake, and the whole wheat cinnamon rolls. They had used local organic flour from Giusto's.
The business closed in November 2000, after the landlord tripled the rent. It reopened briefly as Harmony Bakery Café at California Avenue, Palo Alto; before they relocated to Santa Cruz, California.
