Description of Work
The Fourth of July: Tulelake by Howard Ikemoto was commissioned by George Ow for the "Day of Remembrance, which was February 19, 1998, and the painting itself was actually finished just shortly before the hanging ceremony that day. The painting is a somber yet hopeful tribute to the experiences of the Americans of Japanese descent who were forced into internment camps during World War II.
