Summary:

Run through the Division of Student Life, the HOPE Crisis Fund provides funds to students experiencing unexpected life events or circumstances. The Covid-19 pandemic is included as a significant hardship eligible for application to the HOPE Crisis Fund, as many students are experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic. Each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and all you need to do is submit an application on their website.  Students are not required to pay back the funds and are usually only eligible for the fund once. Any student can apply if they have financial need; students must just be enrolled full or part time.

Evaluation:

Due to the longer processing time, the HOPE Crisis Fund encourages students to look for other funding sources while their application is being processed. If you are unsure if you qualify for the award, they have a helpful Screening Tool at the same link above to determine if the Crisis Fund is the right resource for you. If it’s not, they’ll also direct you to other campus resources that can help you. While there are small, limited funds available, I think this is a great resource for any student needing additional help. It only takes an application to receive help, even if a small amount.

Important to Note:

HOPE requests are reviewed every Thursday, in the order received.  Please submit your request by 5 pm on Monday to ensure it is reviewed that week.

The HOPE Team will make every effort to respond to students in a timely manner.

* Please note that the panel reviewing request will not meet during Spring Break (March 25-29) and will experience some delays with application review. If you are experiencing an emergency, please email [email protected] or stop by the Dean of Students Office on campus in the Student Services Building (SSB) 403.

If you are experiencing a crisis that needs immediate attention, for example, if you do not have a safe space to sleep tonight, please email [email protected]

*Please also note: SF State fosters a campus free of sexual violence including sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and/or any form of sex or gender discrimination. If you disclose a personal experience as an SF State student in your application, the application reader is required to notify the Title IX Coordinator by completing the report form available at http://titleix.sfsu.edu, emailing [email protected] or calling 338-2032.
