MEChA, or Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, is a nationwide student formed and led political organization with 400 loosely affiliated chapters with the goal to help all Latinx/Chicanx students in their academic careers and in their greater community outreach initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, awareness of issues surrounding the Latinx community, on-and-off campus social justice endeavors and presentations, the education of the root causes of said issues, and the overall maintenance of both a revolutionary & evolutionary consciousness, and a “radical ideology”.
HI FOLKS! WE AT MECHA DE SAN PANCHO ARE IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING OUR NAME! WHILE WE APPRECIATE HISTORY AND THE LEGACY THAT MECHA HAS BUILT. WE ARE ALSO AWARE THAT OUR NAME DOESN'T CURRENTLY REFLECT THE VALUES OF OUR ORG THE CONCEPT OF AZTLAN IS DATED AND MISGUIDED AS IT CLAIMS OWNERSHIP OVER A LAND WHERE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE ALREADY EXISTED. IT ERASES THEIR HISTORY OF COLONIAL STRUGGLE AND PUSHES THE BELIEF OF LAND AS PROPERTY RATHER THAN COMMUNITY. FOR THIS REASON WE ARE CHANGING OUR NAME! WE HAVE SOME IDEAS AND WANT TO GET FEEDBACK FROM FOLKS ON THE NAME CHANGE! VOTE OR REPLY WITH ANY IDEAS
