Background-

Stony Point Battlefield is to be known as a historical landmark during the Battle of Stony point in 1779, during the American Revolutionary War. In a planned executed nighttime attack, a trained select group of the Continental Army troops chosen by President Washington went to fight British troops in Stony Point, New York on July 16th, 1779. They quickly defeated the British during this battle and this spot serves as important victory landmark. 

Location- 

Stony Point is a small town in Rockland County, New York, located within the United States. The name of the town is derived from the well-known, Hudson River. The town is located north of of Haverstraw, east and south of Orange County, New York, and west of the Hudson River and Westchester County. Serving a total population of 15,377 (2018). It is  approximately 30 mi (48 km) north of New York City.

History- 

In the late 1890’s the battlefield was purchased and perserved making it later open to the public in 1902. In 1936 a museum was built on side & declared it a national landmark in 1961. 

“The site is now operated as Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site, and includes the museum with exhibits about the battle and the lighthouse. The park offers interpretive programs including 18th century military life, cannon and musket firings, cooking demonstrations, nature walks, guided tours of the battlefield, and children's activities.”
