Offering our community the gift of quality choral musicLET MUSIC LIVE!

The Woodland Chamber Singers is a non-auditioned community chorus dedicated to promoting the performing arts in Yolo County and the surrounding region. It is open to all interested singers ages 14 and older who are committed to attending weekly rehearsals and learning the music – no audition required.

Founded in 1976 with eight singers, WCS now boasts over 70 voices and a number of accomplished instrumentalists. Artistic director Lenore Turner-Heinson and accompanist Lori Jarvey work diligently to bring out the best in each singer and the ensemble as a whole.

WCS presents two concerts a year, celebrating the holiday and spring seasons, at the Pioneer High School Theater in Woodland, with a Saturday evening and a Sunday matinee performance for each. Performances offer opportunities for soloists, small ensembles, instrumentalists and dramatic readers.

One of Woodland’s great holiday traditions is the audience carol sing-along at the December concert. And what would Mother’s Day be without the spring concert? Both feature an array of inspiring and uplifting sacred and secular pieces, often with a little silliness thrown in.

Singing with WCS

The Woodland Chamber Singers chorus brings together singers with a range of ages and skill levels. Parts recordings and sectionals are provided to help everyone learn the music.

Rehearsals are Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 9:30, from mid-September to Mid-December and from late January to mid-May (about 14 weeks each session), at the Woodland Presbyterian Church, 1324 Columbia Drive, Woodland.

Singer dues are supplemented by generous grants from local service organizations, including Kiwanis of Woodland, Woodland Sunrise Rotary and the Glide Foundation of Davis to help cover rehearsal and concert expenses. Students receive a discount, and anyone having difficulty paying dues can work out an arrangement with the treasurer. No one will be turned away for lack of funds - your voice is more important than your dues!

If you are interested in joining the group or want more information about upcoming concerts, please email Lenore Turner-Heinson at [email protected]. Website is: http://www.woodlandsingers.org.

The Woodland Chamber Singers is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under IRS 501(c)(3) and is always looking for sponsors.

Woodland Chamber Singers Spring 2017 concert titled:

The Brotherhood of Man! “An American Musical Theater Road-Trip from sea to shining sea…”

Tickets:  $15 and can be purchased at David’s Broken Note in Woodland, Watermelon Music in Davis, and from WCS chorus members, or at the door.

Once again Lenore Heinson, Artistic Director accompanied by talented Lori Jarvey on the piano, hits it out of the park with an entertaining selection from a wide variety of much loved musical theater and patriotic songs.

The Woodland Chamber Singers spring 2017 concert will be taking a road trip through-out the history of American Musical Theater as a tribute to our great United States. Included in the program are small ensembles, a trio, a quartet, several selections from well-known films and countries beyond the United States (England, Italy, and Russia).   The program promises to sing of the “brotherhood of man” throughout the world.

The concert starts as a journey in Ohio with a show stopping opener: “There’s No Business Like Show Business” from Annie Get Your Gun. Then jump to the west coast with “California, Here I come” followed by the lovely, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”. Selections then take us to Kansas City, the plains of Oklahoma, on to Missouri riding on a trolley, to the shores of the Mississippi River, the excitement of New York City, and finally, to the small town of River City, Iowa, highlighting the great songs from The Music Man, the center piece of the season.

After a visit to Italy with “Nella fantasia”, our program will conclude with “Anthem”, the moving selection from “Chess” (United States/Russia).

“No man, no madness, though their sad power may prevail

Can possess, conquer my country’s heart they rise to fail

She is eternal, long before nation’s lines were drawn

When no flags flew, when no armies stood my land was born…

My land’s only borders lie around my heart”.

There is nothing like live music, please join us in our Mother’s Day weekend concert.  We offer you a spirited concert and lyrical voices.
