Cayuga County in red, Tompkins in green, Cortland in yellow - from WikiMedia Cayuga County, named for one of the tribes of Indians in the Iroquois Confederation, is a county within New York State located on the eastern edge of the Finger Lakes region of New York. Cayuga County contains the City of Auburn, the county seat.

Cayuga County abuts Tompkins County on its northeast including the towns of Genoa, Locke, and Summer Hill.

Cayuga County was founded in 1799, covers 864 square miles, and had a 2000 population of 81,963.
