長保寺 （ちょうほうじ／Chohou-Ji Temple)

長保寺は一条天皇の勅願により長保2年(1000年)に創建されました。
その後、1666年に初代紀州藩主である徳川頼宣によって菩提寺に定められました。
本堂・塔・大門と三つそろって国宝の寺は、法隆寺と長保寺だけです。
県から天然記念物指定されている一万坪の広大な林叢に歴代藩主の廟所が築かれています。
結界で守られたその聖域に入ると、現在でもその霊性を十分に感じることができます。
