Woodhaven's central business district is, along with the area around Southland Center and Fairlane Green/Independence Marketplace, one of the three main concentrations of modern big-box development Downriver. Beginning with just two corner gas stations and a Kmart store in 1971, it has gradually grown to encompass nearly the entire northeast corner of the city.
